Mara Jade Shin Guards

Posted on February 2, 2010 at 2:25 PM

Hello eveyone!! Last year I made a really crappy Mara Jade outfit....it was awful. Wrong everything! So this year I promised myself that I'd redo the outfit. re-boot it! hahaa. So I want onto the Rebel Legion's website and looked at the standards for a Mara Jade 'official' costume. Because if I'm going to spend all this time and money on the oufit I might as well join the Rebel Legion. PLus I want to get into both the 501st and the Rebel Legion.

So I started this months ago, with taking a casting on my leg. I wrote a blog about it....just look at the older blogs, then it took FOREVER to sand down to the smooth texture I wanted it to be. So Finally when I was happy with what I had, the whole project got put on hold....due to the holidays.

The next step was for me to purchase all the materials I'd need for making a mold and then resin to cast the mold. After the holidays were over I had watched sooo many videos...and read soo many papers/how to's on mold making my head hurt.....but I knew what I was doing...kinda.

I purchased all my materials from  AeroMarine Products, they do have an ebay account. They also have detailed notes on what each item is and how to use it. Really nice products too. Here we go.

This is the smooth mother mold. I sprayed them with Silicone Spray Mold Release 3% / General -Purpose parting agent

I then mixed together my Silicone RTV Rubber and brushable catalyst (pink). I did two coats to make sure it was thick enought. Then let them dry for 24 hours.

After they dried I covered the top ith more plaster of paris to make the bottoms stronger, after that dried I poped the mother molds out of the pink silicone. It was tricky...I was trying to crack the plaster underneath. I did get them out nicley...After that I caked on the plaster making sure the mold didn't change shapes on me....the wooden legs are glued on with plaster to make it easier when it comes time to cast a mold. :3

Just a closer look at all the caked on plaster so the mold is strong enough to hold.

This are the materials I used to make this....the plater of paris isn't in the photo but I did use a ton of that in the making of the shin guards.

I will update with everything is dry and I go to make the Resin cast in black of the shin guards!!! I'm really excited to see what happens!!

Happy Hunting!
